Preparing to Go & Serve

In less than one month, thirteen United Methodists from eight United Methodist congregations in the Senatobia District will be traveling to Ahuachapán, El Salvador in a partnership effort with Salvadoran Mission Projects (SMP). The Senatobia-SMP partnership is entering its fifth year, and promises to be filled with numerous glory sightings as both Mississippi team members and Salvadorans bear witness to the boundless love of God. As in years past, the team will be working alongside Salvadoran locals and members of the Evangelical Methodist Church in El Salvador on church/school/house construction projects, offering Vacation Bible School, and a growing feeding-and-evangelism ministry.

Begun in 2010, Salvadoran Mission Projects is a ministry partnership between the Evangelical Methodist Church in El Salvador and United Methodist Volunteers In Mission (UMVIM). Brian Dubberly, one of SMP’s founding missionaries, serves as a long-term UMVIM volunteer, a North Carolina Conference (UMC) missionary, and the UMVIM Coordinator in El Salvador. Brian’s wife, Ellyn, is a General Board of Global Ministries (GBGM) missionary who serves in El Salvador in the area of Christian Education. Brian and Ellyn serve alongside The Reverend Juan de Dios Pena-Gallegos, President of The Evangelical Methodist Church in El Salvador, to help alleviate the suffering of the poor and marginalized in El Salvador through the ongoing ministries of SMP. You can learn more about SMP by visiting their website: www.salvadoranmissionprojects.com.

Please be in prayer for the staff of SMP, the people of El Salvador, and the Senatobia District’s team especially during the week of their trip (Monday, June 11 – Tuesday, June 19, 2018). The team will attempt to post daily reflections and pictures to the Senatobia District’s website every evening, and to a mission blog on Minor Memorial UMC’s website.
