Meet the Staff
Pastor: Rev. Amanda Gordon
Our pastor, Rev. Amanda Gordon, is newly appointed to our church. Amanda was ordained an elder of the United Methodist Church last June after receiving her bachelor's degree at Delta State University and completing seminary at Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, MO. Amanda has been busy serving in various ministry settings over the past 12 years and most recently served as New Albany FUMC as Associate Pastor since 2007.
Amanda's hometown is Pearl, MS where she graduated from Pearl High School in 1996. Her family still lives in Pearl. She met her husband Adam while at St. Paul and they are looking forward to serving the UMC Senatobia District in DeSoto County. Adam as well is a United Methodist minister and will be serving at Maples Memorial UMC in Olive Branch as Associate Pastor.
Amanda is proud to be a Fighting Okra! She also welcomes the opportunity to meet with individuals, families and groups for conversations, lunch, coffee, etc. as she gets acquainted with the Minor Memorial community and building relationships.
Youth Minister
Our Youth Minister , Ryan McGough (Magoo), was hired on August, 21 2011. Magoo is seeking ordination as an elder of the United Methodist Church and is a certified candidate in this process. Magoo received his bachelor’s degree in business management from Jackson State University. Magoo has served at various youth ministries throughout the state of Mississippi over the past 5 years and most recently served at Broadmeadow UMC in Jackson MS since 2009 .
Magoo’s hometown is Brandon, MS where he graduated from Brandon High School in 2004. His father is the Pastor of Diamondhead UMC in Diamondhead, MS and his mother works for the UMC Conference office. Magoo is currently single and will begin attending Memphis Theological Seminary in the Fall of 2011.
Magoo is proud to be a White Tiger! He also welcomes the opportunity to meet with individuals, families and the youth for discussions, lunch, coffee, etc. as he gets acquainted with the Minor Memorial community and building relationships.
Music Director: Currently we are seeking a quarter-time Music Director. Responsibilities include directing the choir, leading worship on Sunday mornings, assisting with worship planning, and overseeing the overall music ministry of the church. The church is looking for someone who has a desire to use his or her musical talent to serve the Lord. The ideal candidate will have experience in church music and/or a music degree. Secretary/Finance: Helen Miller
Helen Miller resides in Olive Branch with her husband Rich. She attends Maples Memorial UMC and has lived in DeSoto County for approximately 12 years. While family lives away they have become involved in their church family and also have a pet cat Shiloh. Helen enjoys going to the movies, reading, cross stitch. Helen and Joann split their work week at church.
Secretary: Joann Freeman
Joann Freeman is married to Wayne and they make their home in
Independence. They have two grown married sons who have provided them with four grandchildren (with a fifth due in June). Spending time with grandchildren is one of Joann & Wayne's favorite things to do.
She is a member of the Independence United Methodist Church where she teaches Sr. High Sunday School, sings in the choir and is Prayer Chain coordinator for the U.M.W.
